Mother's Old Fashioned Custard Pie

Beat in a bowl with rotary beaters;
    6 eggs
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup sugar
Blend well
Add 3 cups milk, gradually
Pour into a 9-inch unbaked pie shell
Sprinkle with a little nutmeg over the top
Bake 350° for 35 to 40 minutes
Test for doneness; a knife inserted off-center should come out clean.
